I’ve just Youtubed all of the songs from Pia’s ‘Soundtrack of my Life’ list because I hadn’t heard of any of them. None of them rang any bells. What did strike me though was that Pia was in every song. Not literally, of course…I mean that when I listened to them there were just certain things within them that were just her - the melody, the lyrics, the tone of...

Kerstin Ibald/Rebecca fans...
Does anyone happen to know if Kerstin has any Mrs Danvers dates coming up? I know that Femke Soetenga is first cover, making Kerstin second…does Kerstin still get dates as a second cover, or is she just on at random when Pia and Femke can’t perform? I know she does a bit in St. Gallen, but I’m asking for Suttgart…mostly around September/October…assuming she’s...

Raven Symone (Yes, from That’s So Raven) has been cast as Deloris van Cartier in Sister Act on Broadway. I actually think she’ll be rather good. Good luck to her :)

Discovered yesterday my cat does not like playing Ich as I sing Die Starke Einer Frau to her. Discovered today that she doesn’t approve of me singing Memory to her either. At least the musical is a bit more appropriate!

My mum has met someone on an internet dating site she’s meeting next week. I don’t like change, I’ve never really wanted her to have a boyfriend after my Dad (even though I’m 22 and being completely immature and totally selfish) but at the moment, I’m actually okay about this. She’s really happy and excited at the moment, and that’s great. She’s not...

My heart says I have GOT to stop playing Die Starke Einer Frau before I drive everyone mad… my head and my ears say “nein”. They win.

rachiikins: Now, I couldn’t give a fig about the Olympics. I think it’s going to make every that is bad about London, worse. But that isn’t the point of this post. We’re now in the final run up, the competitors are undoubtedly training their backsides off, and yet we find female GB athletes are more…   I second, third and forth this. The Olympics isn’t my thing but I’m...

Reblog if you have mourned the death of a...
Mourned? Yes. Quietly? No. I put the book down, hugged myself, sobbed hysterically, then took a half an hour break before I could carry on… my Mum thought I’d broken up with my girlfriend. I have never cried so hard at a book, and maybe not even a film..and I always cry at films. Fuck you, Sally Beauman, for killing my favourite character! Even if the way you did it was beautiful in...

Kind of irritates me that on the website of the Broadway Rebecca they have the recording of She’s Invincible (Sie Ergibt Sich Nicht) and they call it Exclusive. It makes it sound like it was recorded for them and only them, and that it’s from their casting. It doesn’t seem to credit Pia Douwes at all, which gets me most of all, and actually, if I’m correct, it was done as...

I don’t think my cat appreciates me using her as Ich and waltzing her around the room as I sing along to Die Starker Einer Frau. Sorry Freya.

West End: Over the years, I've had Les Miserables, The Phantom of the Opera, Miss Saigon, Sunset Boulevard, Oliver!, Chicago, Blood Brothers, Billy Elliot, Evita, Joseph, Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music... None of that modern juke box crap.
Broadway: Yeah, we've had those too. And Wicked, we invented Wicked. And Avenue Q. There's been Jekyll and Hyde, Cabaret, Aida, The Colour Purple, Rent... What about you, Europe? What do you have?
Europe: Just...you know...some shows and stuff.
West End: No come on, tell us.
Europe: Originality, Ambition, Talent...
Broadway: Those aren't shows!
Years Later
Broadway: So how's the West End looking?
West End: We still have a few originals... but now we have Shrek, Ghost: The Musical, we're getting Susan Boyle's life story, Tina Turner's musical, Spice Girls, Bend It Like Beckham... and well um...anything else that tries to be original and, you know, good, closes early. Oh and we like to cast famous people who can't sing, dance or act. What about you?
Broadway: Rent closed...and we got Spiderman. We've had Shrek too, and Ghost. We'll probably get The Bodyguard when you finish with it. We had something about Dancing Vampires, that failed...
Europe: Tanz der Vampire.
West End: Sorry, Europe, did you speak? What have you had? Come on, you never told us.
Europe: Well we've had Wicked, Sunset Boulevard, Miss Saigon, Cats, Chicago, Cabaret... you know, the usual. But then, we've also had Mozart, Lulu, Romeo and Juliette, Dracula, Rudolf, Elisabeth, Tanz der Vampire - thanks for ruining that - oh yeah, and we invented Rebecca das Musical. Not to mention we have Michael Kunze, Sylvester Levay, Pia Douwes, Uwe Kroger, Wietske van Tongeren, Kerstin Ibald, Maya Hakvroot, Jan Ammann... need I go on?
West End:
Broadway:
Europe:
West End: F*ck my life.
Broadway: And mine.

Can I just ask anyone who saw the original Rebecca when it was in Vienna… Does Mrs Danvers A) Wear Rebecca’s night dress/gown when she is setting Manderley on fire? and B) Does she burn? And by burn, I mean does she catch on fire? I’ve just watched a clip of Kerstin singing Ich Hor Dich Singen, and then it cuts to Manderley in Flammen and her setting the banisters of the...

Oh my sweet holy f*ck!!!! Thank you oh mighty God of Duets!!! Two of my favourite performers singing one of my absolute favourite songs? This never happens! This is only ever something I make up in my head! This can go hand in hand with my all time favourite version by Pia and Linda, get married, and have fabulous musical babies!

So I was discussing Wietske with my girlfriend and she said “She’s very deceptive. You think she can only ever look cute and then BANG there’s the sexy.” To which I said something along the lines of: “Hello, I’m Wietske. That’s right, the cute one. Cute, cute, cute…that’s me. What’s that? Oh…yes, that is lingerie beneath my dress....

There’s something “weird” about Kerstin’s voice. Not weird in a bad way, and I certainly can’t describe it, but you can hear it both when she sings and when she talks - it’s really strong when she’s singing. It means you can always tell it’s her; no one else sounds like that. For some reason, I absolutely love it. It’s beautiful.

That moment when Rebecca starts, the waves are crashing on the screen, and Ich - hidden behind it - sings “Ich hab getraumt von Manderley” and all you want to do is scream “COME ON WHERE IS SHE!?!?!?!?!?!” because you’re sat on the edge of your seat like a five year old waiting for Christmas Day.
